While we were doing our belly dance she gave us a very unamused look as if we were being a nuisance. “One day Elizabeth Taylor was there, sitting on the couch wearing a too-tight dress. “We’d returned from three months in Turkey and my brother Igor and I used to be made to dress up in Turkish costumes – with pointy shoes, baggy trousers and bare bellies – and dance when guests came round. He was a lovely man.”Īnother time, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor visited the Ustinovs’ Paris home. Before I went back, he gave me some stripy red toothpaste and said I should put some on my finger and hold it near my eyes and it would look as if I’d been crying. “David called the headmistress and said I was distraught. Peter Ustinov’s marked-up copy of the screenplay for Quo Vadis (estimate €400-€600). Pavla, like her father an actor, writer and director, who went on to appear with Ustinov on stage, television and in film, recalls the arrival of La Liseuse in the family’s French apartment in 1965. Most were collected between 19 when the family lived at Neuilly-sur-Seine, on the outskirts of Paris. In a pre-sale interview from her home in California, Pavla Ustinov, the second of his four children, whose mother was the Canadian actor Suzanne Cloutier, said she had mixed feelings about the objects from her childhood. Paintings by his mother, Nadia Benois, including portraits of Ustinov as a boy, and models of sets designed by his great uncle the Russian artist Alexandre Benois, commissioned by the Ballets Russes and the Royal Ballet in Covent Garden are up for auction along with paintings by the Swiss-French artist Félix Vallotton. The actor, who would say he was conceived in Leningrad and born in London, was from an artistic Russian family that emigrated to the UK after the revolution. La Liseuse by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, c 1890. and probably many other's that I've forgotten. I've probably tried every filing program available for the Mac, including: I have to keep them for 5 years by federal law but I save them all. The past years inventory goes into the folder the current is the one out on top. I also keep many versions of critical items and they do tend to be in their own folder.Īnother example I have a folder Sheep Inventory History and a file Sheep Inventory 2010 both in my top level file system. Within that are all the various versions of the documents and e-mails and everything to and from the various water lawyers & judges and the various negotiations before we settled as well as the final case report and judgement. Fastest filing is a single layer of folders, it is what I have in my paper system but for electronic items it does make sense to have a few children of folders.įor example I have a folder Water Law and within that is a child folder of Water Case with XXX. I guess I should just chuck everything but the final version out, but for some reason I'm reluctant to do so.įlatter structures are easier to find things in because you don't have to remember that folder X is a child of folder W. One thing I am struggling with that none of you have mentioned, are all the different drafts and versions of things I have written. I'm thinking I would need more structure in the archive than just A-Z, though… Dividing into Current projects and Archive is a good idea. With GMail, I often just leave email attachments where they are, though (I'm way beyond my quota there). Photodiva: That sounds like a good system. I'm curious, though: Why exactly do you want to flatten out your folder structure? Would I really want to put all my files into it? Especially considering that you can't really link to things in Evernote?īTW, the files are mostly of the kind you describe, jason.verly. Re Evernote: I love it! But so far I only use it for text notes that I create in the app. I'm not sure that Google desktop is all that much better than the spotlight feature on Macs, though. In the process I thought I might as well introduce some structure… Usually that's related to it being on different hard drives, though, so this is a lot about just getting everything in one place. I'm wasting quite a bit already, though, when I don't find stuff. Zagazoo: One can indeed waste a lot of time on organising. In the meantime, are there any good summaries of his advice online? (Or maybe you can give us the elevator pitch on his take on folder structures? ) TesTeq: Looks like an interesting book, I'll consider buying it. Sort of like my working project files next to my tickler file.Īnd I am exploring evernote for some files as well. I keep out in a top level finder window the individual files I reference all the time, my sheep inventory, my list of books owned on paper and on kindle, my Quicken data files for personal and both businesses and so on. a nested folder :to represent a file name Scanned files are in a separate set of folders. For some archive data I've been scanning I have a good naming scheme that is working. I also have started re-naming files so the contents are more easily known from looking at the name. Whenever I am really bored I move and sort a few of the electronic files. My goal is no more than 2 levels deep in the folders. I am also trying to flatten out my folder structure. What I am doing is creating an A-Z folder structure on my machine in a single folder called General Filing. I'm in the same boat, Mac based, paper filing working, digital files a bit of a mess. This reproduction process has a major drawback. Some eukaryotes like paramecium and amoeba use binary fission as a means of reproduction.īinary Fission happens without the spindle apparatus (the cytoskeletal structure of eukaryotic cells which gets created during the cell-division process with the purpose of detaching the sister chromatids from the daughter cells) formation in the respective cell. It includes all living organisms with the exception of eubacteria and archaea. They are those organisms consisting of cell(s), where the genetic material (DNA in chromosomes) is contained within a distinct nucleus. Prokaryotes include archaea, cyanobacteria, eubacteria, etc. They are single-celled, microscopic organisms that lack a nuclear membrane as well as other organelles due to the absence of inner membranes. There are primarily two types of organisms that practice binary fission, prokaryotes, and eukaryotes. The process of Binary Fission dates back to billions of years ago and is practiced by some of the earliest life forms on earth. The reproduction with a single organism is called Asexual Reproduction and the process consisting of the involvements of the two organisms to give birth to the offspring is called Sexual Reproduction. The whole process can be performed either by a single organism or can require the presence of two of the organisms for giving birth to the offspring of a particular species.Due to the diversity of the organisms, the reproductive processes differ from one species to another. This reproductive process is nothing but giving birth to one’s genetic offspring. In their life span, the organisms continue the journey of their species’ existence from generation across generations through a biological process called ‘ reproduction’.This circle or chain is called a ‘life cycle’ or ‘life span’. Each and every living being, from a gigantic whale to a minuscule bacterium- all of them are carrying the same circle, rather than an order of a chain with them, i.e., birth > growing up > death. Our planet, the Earth, consists of thousands of living species that have existed for millennia.Key Terms: Binary fission, asexual reproduction, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. In addition to basic capabilities like federal legal compliance and stock tracking, PrimeRx's pharmacy management also lets you view cost comparisons between wholesalers to help you price products competitively. Hardware and software costs are determined by each pharmacy's distinct needs but if you're looking for an estimate, you can contact the sales team directly for quotes. Unfortunately, PioneerPx doesn't list its pricing publically. Therefore, our research suggests PioneerPx will be a slightly poorer fit for chain pharmacies or businesses that keep stock across multiple locations. However, while PioneerPx offers a number of stand-out stock handling features like multiple wholesaler ordering, usage-based ordering, and shelf labels, its multi-venue inventory tools aren't quite as capable as rivals like Prime Rx or LightSpeed. The system also lets pharmacists identify high-risk patients, so they're able to make the necessary interventions. For example, PioneerPx's software refills maintenance medications automatically so patients never miss out on their prescriptions. The POS allows pharmacists to deliver exceptionally high standards to their patients too, making it a safe bet for businesses looking to grow their base. However, as part of its mission to ‘save and revitalize independent pharmacies' the POS offers a number of unique perks for budding independent pharmacies, from unique training features, scalable software, and hardware options, and even it's very own educational podcast ‘Catalyst' for pharmaceutical business owners. PioneerPx's integrated, capable toolkit makes it an asset for most types of pharmacies. Read on to learn more about our top POS systems for pharmacies, or use our personalized POS comparison form to receive free quotes from the best solutions on the market. To narrow down your search, this guide outlines seven of our best picks and points out some top features to look out for when landing on the perfect solution. From age verification to expiry management, the system needs to contain pharmacy-specific or boast excellent software integrations. Pharmacies can't rely on a one-size-fits-all POS solution to run their business. Or, if you're just after a POS system to help you manage sales, Talech and Vend are cost-effective options that can integrate seamlessly with pharmacy management systems. PrimeRx is another strong contender, with top-tier automation features to drive up efficiency, and a multi-pharmacy support system to help business owners manage processes across different locations. It offers excellent patient safeguarding and business pharmacy growth tools – making it ideal for independent pharmacies – and it's the only provider we've reviewed that offers a pharmacy management system alongside its point-of-sale service. After analyzing the top providers, our research has found that PioneerPx is the most adept and feature-rich pharmacy point of sale (POS) system. Instead of focusing on individual retailers at first, focus on finding the best universal wedding registry. First things first, create a universal registry. While having so many registry options is indeed a good thing, deciding where to start and finding the best wedding registry websites can be a bit daunting. Nowadays, couples are choosing to mix and match their registries-registering for traditional gift items, sure, but also adding honeymoon experiences, cash funds, and charitable donations to their universal wedding registry, as well. Either way, our Vogue-approved guide is the first and last source you’ll need.Creating your wedding gift registry online makes the whole process easy and stress-free-and luckily, some of the best wedding registry websites are ones you probably already know (and love!). Go all-out with your registry, or just use this list to jog your memory. It has the A to Z of everything you may want or need. So while you approach the rabbit’s hole that is the wedding registry-but before you even pick up a Williams-Sonoma or Crate & Barrel scanner-review and print out this list. And come to think of it, your college-era garlic press that never worked and those dangerously dull knives have got to go. But just because you are the proud owner of a full set of plates does not mean that you haven’t long coveted a blue Le Creuset Dutch oven and a fleet of hammered copper pots. So a full wedding registry can seem a little bit out of date. Most people who get married in 2016 have long possessed a fully stocked kitchen, not to mention that many have likely lived with their betrothed for a number of years. Club, Annie Zaleski wrote that the album "seamlessly meshes the sonic styles of the two bands. Vocal duties are seamlessly shared between FF's Alex Kapranos and Sparks' Russell Mael, a shockingly smooth passing of the baton in every song. It might be too weird for the average FF fan – "Dictator's Son" is total nerd prog, for example, and most of the songs take sharp turns – but others will find that the pair-up has revitalised FF's sound and taken it in a far more interesting direction while also giving an overdue spotlight to Sparks. Writing for NOW, Carla Gillis writes that: This debut is enough to make you hope both sides make good on that promise. Both acts insist that FFS isn't a one-off musical play date, that they're invested in the project as a full-time thing. Meanwhile, Sparks are at their quirky best thanks to their newfound collaboration. Franz Ferdinand's panicked dance rock gets a new lease, even if it's a mild reinvention. It's evident from the outset that things on FFS are going to work out just fine, and the record keeps that momentum flowing largely through to the end. Electric cars are increasingly looking like the future of motoring, which means we’re. However, solid-state batteries have typically been harder and costlier to make, limiting their commercial application. Electric car battery tech explained Your guide to the latest EV batteries Capacity, cost, dangers, lifespan. China, with 4.5 million electric cars, has the largest fleet. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for two-thirds of new electric car registrations and two-thirds of the stock in 2020. Solid-state batteries have been widely seen as a potential gamechanger for electric vehicles, promising to reduce charging times, increase capacity and reduce the fire risk associated with lithium-ion batteries, which use a liquid electrolyte. After a decade of rapid growth, in 2020 the global electric car stock hit the 10 million mark, a 43 increase over 2019, and representing a 1 stock share. For more information on the Vehicle Technologies Offices research on batteries, contact Brian Cunningham on the batteries team. Depending on the model of battery you need, your electric car battery replacement cost can range from around 5,000 to 20,000, depending on the vehicle. Since 2010, the average price of a lithium-ion (Li-ion) EV battery pack has fallen from 1,200 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to just 132/kWh in 2021. The company expects to be able to manufacture solid-state batteries for use in electric vehicles as soon as 2027, according to the Financial Times, which first reported on Toyota’s claimed breakthrough. As electric vehicle (EV) battery prices keep dropping, the global supply of EVs and demand for their batteries are ramping up. Research by the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Vehicle Technologies Office estimates the cost of an electric vehicle lithium-ion battery pack declined 87 between 20 (using 2021. Kaita said the company had developed ways to make batteries more durable and believed it could now make a solid-state battery with a range of 1,200km (745 miles) that could charge in 10 minutes or less. “If it is a genuine breakthrough it could be a gamechanger, very much the holy grail of battery vehicles.” “Often there are breakthroughs at the prototype stage but then scaling it up is difficult,” he said. “In terms of potential, we will aim to halve all of these factors.”ĭavid Bailey, a professor of business economics at the University of Birmingham, said that if Toyota’s claims were founded, it could be a landmark moment for the future of electric cars. “For both our liquid and our solid-state batteries, we are aiming to drastically change the situation where current batteries are too big, heavy and expensive,” said Keiji Kaita, president of the Japanese auto firm’s research and development centre for carbon neutrality. On Tuesday, the Japanese company said it had simplified production of the material used to make them, hailing the discovery as a significant leap forward that could dramatically cut charging times and increase driving range. |
